Amber Holmes Wins Essay Contest!

Congratulations! We are proud to announce that Mr. Smalls' 6th grade ELA student, Amber Holmes, has won 1st place in the 6th grade division of the “Peek into Healthy Soils” Essay Contest of the Charleston Soil and Water Conservation District.  Not only was Amber's essay selected for the best in 6th grade, but was chosen as The Best Overall Conservation Essay! Amber has won a 25.00 dollar cash award, Certificate of Achievement, and a one year subscription to the South Carolina Wildlife Magazine.  Amber will also be recognized at an awards dinner on Wednesday, June 6th at Fort Johnson's Outdoor Classroom.  The event will begin at 6pm.

WAMS wins first place in CCSD's conservation video project.  The project was created and produced by Mrs. Rogers' 2nd period Drama class.  Check out the video!

AP Summer Academy: Preparing Students for College Success
August 6-8, 2012
Time: 9am -12pm

This is a free course for rising 9th graders enrolled in Honors English I.  The registration deadline is July 30, 2012. Only the first 100 applicants will be accepted.

Daily Announcements

WAMS raises $1,150.00 for Pennies for Patience
During February, WAMS homerooms collected money for Pennies for Patience.  The students raised $1,150.00 to benefit the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.  Mrs. Cathcart's homeroom (pictured here) won the competition, raising $350.00!!!


7th Grade Students Complete Service Project
The 7th grade students at West Ashley Middle School eagerly participated in the Tri-County Youth Service Celebration.  The students worked in ELA class to write and illustrate childrens' books centered around strong themes that fall under the categories of:  social justice, animal welfare, and environmental ethics.  Some of the books created focus on stopping bullying, saving the rainforest, helping homeless animals, and taking care of elderly people.  The students will be delivering the books to kindergarten and first grade classrooms throughout CCSD.  They are proud of their writing and are excited about sharing a focus on literacy, as well as positive messages, with the children in our District.

2nd Place in CCSD Spelling Bee!

Food Drive
WAMS sponsored a food drive competition titled: Clemson vs. South Carolina.  Students raised over 480 cans of food for the local food bank!

WAMS partners with local businesses to spread holiday cheer!

The "Giving Tree" is a service project to collect items to give to WAMS families in need during the holidays.  West Ashley partnered with businesses like Home Depot and Old Navy to make the holidays brighter for 10 WAMS families!

WAMS Students Celebrate Shakespeare's Birthday!
The 6th and 7th grade Drama students performed monologues and scenes from famous Shakespeare plays on Monday April, 23 in Honor of The Bard's Birthday.

WAMS teachers show Spirit at Superintendent's Cup!
Mr. Yelland's WAMS tennis team may not have won the coveted Superintendent's Cup, but they had a great time and made WAMS proud!!!
